Producing replicas of these beautiful rigs that are small enough to fit nicely on a shelf, has been a painstaking process. Over 18 months, each of the hundreds of intricately detailed parts are designed, cast or fabricated, painted, decorated, and trimmed...then organized in small bins, ready for assembly. There is no substitute for the laborious tasks that each of the 35 skilled men and women perform. It is a sight to see as each team member patiently adheres each part to another, consistently analyzing the end result. As you scroll down the assembly pictures, take notice of the parts on each workstation and you will gain a greater appreciation for the process. And don't forget to add these Classic Chicago pumpers to your collection.Engine Co 1's History by Joe O'BrienThe 1956 Mack B95 used by Chicago were equipped with 200-gallon tanks, this was a first for Chicago engines so the placement of these Engine’s was well thought out. These Mack’s also ran frontline for 20 years, over time the shops would retro fit some of them with booster reels, and square sidewalls over the rear wheels. Tiger stripes also appeared on bumpers, the shops would eventually replace the lights with aurora borealis, and even add large white numbers on the doors. Engine 1 is the oldest active Engine Company in Chicago. The 1956 Mack went in service at the 3-bay firehouse at 419 S. Wells, with Engine 21 and Truck 1. During the 1957 until 1961. Engine 1 would be detailed to Meigs Field which operated from 6:00 AM until 10:00 PM and was the busiest non-24-hour airport at that time. The main reason is the 56 Mack had a 200-gallon water tank on it. In 1961 Engine 21 and Engine 1 swapped rigs. Engine 21 which was a 2nd engine running out of the Firehouse on Wells moved permanently to Meigs Field.More About the Scale ModelThis Chicago Fire Department Engine Co. 1 scale model is a museum grade replica of the 1956 Mack B95 Pumper.
