Description: 1833 "New Edition" of George Sale's translation of the The Koran, aka The Alcoran of Mohammed, Translated into English Immediately from the Original Arabic with Explanatory Notes Taken from the Most Approved Commentators to Which is Prefixed a Preliminary Discourse." This the Thomas Wardle Philadelphia printing, generally considered the first U.S. edition of Sale's translation of the Koran. Good. Leather has some scuffs, scratches, discoloration and minor cracking, but still attractive overall. Exterior hinges dry and starting to crack, making the boards feel a little delicate but still well-attached. Binding is solid. Gilt on spine faded but still present and visible. Some pencil writing inside front cover of vol. 1. Vol. 1 has water stains on the sides of the pages that fade from the title page to 30-40 pages in, then again toward the end of the volume (middle section has no water staining). Vol. 2 just has water staining near the end. Some foxing throughout both volumes. See photos and ask any questions you have.
