These speeches were delivered in St. Mary Pro-Cathedral in 1875, and were spoken with the help of only a few notes, proving Vaughan's ability with public speaking and religious prowess. Vaughan was passionate about speaking on the subject of education, as shown in the final speech in this volume, however his efforts to make any progress didn't effect the parliament. Vaughan had previously held a position as Rector of St John's College at the University of Sydney, and had a scandal when he came into conflict with the Freemasons, accusing them to trying to subvert religion and trying to take over the educational system. CONDITION In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, sound. Light ring markings and tidemarks to the boards and spine, causing some discolouration, mostly to the tail of the front board, to the rear joint, and to the spine. Light fading to the spine. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A little rubbing to the extremities. Label to the front pastedown, 'J. A. Martyn Bookbinder 7A Castlereach St Sydney'. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots. Binding puncture marks close to the gutter throughout most of the textblock.
