The Prince and the Pauper was unlike anything Twain had done up till that time. It is a fine adventure with a vein of classic Twain humor. Twain took up a short stay in Montreal in an attempt to establish residency there so that he could register the copy-right in Canada, England and the United States. Twain denounced the Belford brothers as "miserable thieves" and claimed lost ten thousand dollars over the "Tom Sawyer debacle" and even named a character in a play after them "this inhuman miscreant" and he almost quit writing so they would not benefit from his talents. His past encounters with piracy led him to make this attempt. The London and Canadian editions of this work were issued some days prior to the Boston edition. 7.25" x 5.25." Binding tight and square, no condition issues to note. Photos are of the actual item being sold and they are to be considered part of the description.
