Description: This listing is for a nearly 150 year old silk ribbon from the "Commemoration of the Centennial of American Independence" in 1876. This is a Stevengraph or woven silk picture. This ribbon measures 11 5/8" x 2 3/16". At the top of the ribbon is a portrait of George Washington, America's first President. Below his head list the original 13 colonies and at the bottom "E PLURIBUS UNUM". The front also has lots of American imagery with a flag, shield and an eagle along with the dates of 1776 and 1876. . The back side at the top says "B.B. TILT & SON, N.Y. & PATERSON, N.J." and at the bottom there is an eagle and says "TRADE MARK". I believe this was made for the 1876 Centennial Exposition held in Philadelphia which is why Pennsylvania is the center state listed. Condition: The ribbon itself is in wonderful condition with 2 light fold lines where a long time ago it had been stored folded in thirds. The purple tassel at the bottom is disconnected from the ribbon itself. Please see the photos for more detail. This will be shipped well packed between 2 pieces of cardboard and in a hard mailer.
