Description: 1883 National Horse Show Association Of America, Membership Badge, With A Silver Hanger, Engraved with the member's name "W.C. Davies", And In The Wreath On The Reverse Is Engraved "139", which is his membership number. These medals seldom show up as engraved badges, which is the way they were issued to members, and as such are very scarce. The medals alone, are often seen in uncirculated condition, without engraving and without ribbon and hanger, but they were never issued to members, and are quite common. This medal itself is struck in white metal, it's 32 mm in diameter, and the badge including the hangar, ribbon, and medal, is 65 mm long, it is in extremely fine to almost uncirculated condition. In addition, the ribbon is stamped lightly in silver ink, "1884" which is most likely the year Mr. Davies joined the Association. The National Horse Show Association was founded in 1883 and it's first event was held in New York City's Madison Square Garden, that year. Rulau lists the medal as MV-22, which is an unknown location, but a few minutes of searching Google revealed it should be attributed to New York City.
