Birmingham, Alabama - A special state-wide primary to choose a nominee for attorney-general succeeding the slain Albert L. Patterson was set today for July 27 and Patterson's son immediately qualified for the race. The state Democratic Executive Committee in a special meeting adopted, 45 to 5, a resolution setting the date for the first primary and a runoff August 24, if necessary. The deadline for qualifying by candidates was fixed at midnight July 1. In qualifying for the race, John Patterson, 32-year-old law partner of his slain father, said: "It is my intention to carry out the policies of my late father." Photo is dated 6/27/1954.
