Description: Measuring over eight inches tall, in full polished calf with five raised bands, gilt rules, dentils and lettering to spine (including London 1807 at bottom) as well as a bookplate of Osman Ricardo (once a British Liberal and Whig politician on the front pastedown) and 1807 on title page, this is a first impression of the British stated Sixth Edition of Roman Antiquities or an account of the Manners and Customs of the Romans (London, Cadel and Davies, Strand et al, 1807) by Alexander Adam, his best work first published in 1791. Preface to the First Edition and Advertisement to the Second Edition are included. The book is in good condition for its age. Binding is square and reasonably firm with no tears to gutters. Boards are not detached BUT hinges are weak and rear board at outer fold hinge has a split alongspine - about 5 inches - though still attached. Re-backing will eventually be needed. Corners and heel show light wear. Interior contents are very good with no errant marks and very light scattered foxing. Heavy matt front endpaper has a name/date on it and, as mentioned, the Front pastedown bares an old printed book plate of Osman Ricardo, a British Liberal and Whig politician, as well as book store stamp beneath. The opening bid is $40.00 with an affordable Buy It Now. Buyer pays $6.50 boxed and padded media rate shipping in the USA. I do not ship directly outside the United States but will use EBay’s program. Books are returnable in same condition for a full refund.
