Description: We are offering two American flag items. 1.) American Flag tobacco silk. The flag has 46 stars, indicating it is from the period of 1908 to 1912, when the United States had 46 states. (4 1/4" x 6 1/4") 2.) World War I "A Thought From Home" card, with thoughts and prayers for the soldiers fighting abroad. (3 1/2" x 6 1/4") The poem reads: "We are standing back of you at home,One hundred million strong,You're in each heart, each thought, each prayer,Each sermon and each song; You're in each dollar that we earnAnd in each one we spend,For nothing's good enough for youAnd the flag that you defend." NOTE: Although the flag has only 24 stars which would indicate the period from 1822 to 1836, we know this card is during WWI because of the second line in the poem "One hundred million strong". According to the Brookings Institute website, the U.S. population hit the 100 million mark in 1915, and so, of course, we assume this patriotic poem, in support of the troops "defending the flag", would have been during WWI. And, also, it had come to us with other WWI items. The maker of this card obviously wasn't too concerned about making sure the illustration had the accurate number of stars for that period of time (48 stars) possibly for lack of space or because it wasn't that important.
