Description: The artist, Andrew S Gunderson, is the artist who composed this original pastel. In the artist's early career he signed his name: A. Gunderson. In later years he dropped the A., and simply used his family name: Gunderson. Perhaps this change is because he was enjoying a good measure of success, and his name had become known. He was nothing less than a prolific artist with substantial accomplishments. That said, this pastel was one of his earlier works. This painting predates 1950. Upon the back of the frame was a cardboard liner (a dust cover of sorts). Written in pen upon that cardboard is the following: CrissConnie Contellgave me this Pretiure (misspelled Picture)1950it was her's Additionally the dust cover over the cardboard was a London newspaper. There are only fragments of that newspaper now. But I have saved what I could because it is a part of this pastel painting's long history. See last four photos. I also believe the frame is original to this painting. That is in part because there are several original pastel's I have discovered that have the identical frame, all of those pastel's are by different owners. It just may be that the artist framed this painting himself. He was also known to make his own paint and chalk he used in his many paintings. This original pastel is one of the finest and most dramatic works I have viewed for this artist. He was such a prolific artist that a significant number of his works survive today. The beauty and originality of his works were enough that they were well cared for by their many owners. There is a great deal of easily accessed information about this artist, who was born in 1888 and lived until 1964. He principally lived in Central Illinois nearly his entire lifetime. Of the bounty of information available, I will share this one tidbit of the artist's history. He believed that all homes should have the beauty of art in them. For that reason he priced his paintings very low. It may be, In part, why so many of his works survive and have been so popular among collectors. An artist will never rise to public acclaim and fame with only a hand full of paintings. It requires a significant number to establish an artist -- so long as they are not oversold. As is the case of Thomas Kinkade and other's before him. So it is my conviction that this artist is primed for a renewal of artistic appreciation and perhaps another opportunity for fame, even though he passed from this life nearly 70 years ago. At the time of shipping I will remove the standard glass in the frame now, replacing it with an acrylic art glass (plexiglass). Plexiglass has long proven to be shatterproof and will assure a safe transport and delivery. Depending upon the delivery area, shipping will be by: USPS., FedEx., or UPS. Local pick up is also welcome and will be accommodated.
