Description: A rare Porquier-Beau Quimper serving dish with folded/rolled edges featuring a hand painted scene of folk dancing, a decor riche border, and a cobalt blue sponge painted reverse side. Designed by artist Alfred Beau of the Porquier factory, it is signed on the underside with the overlapping PB mark of PorquierpBeau and "Bannelec" for the townspeople depicted. Dates from the last quarter of the 19th century and is nearly identical to the dish shown in Adela Meadow's book Quimper Pottery, A Guide to Origins, Styles, and Values on Page 111. In very good antique condition with a chip on the underside of a folded edge which appears to originate from production as it is glazed and fired. There is also a minor linear glaze chip to the rim and wear in a few areas (see photos). Dimensions are approximately 10''L x 10''W x 2 1/2"T.
