Description: Exquisite, RARE, antique pink silk & velvet lined marriage display casket 1890’s, complete with its couronne (crown) - wood with shaped glass. Detailed repousse toleware trim (gold filigree) with decorative roses design frames exterior. Footed. Domes glass front, oval glass side windows. Wax orange blossoms and buds, mini calla lilies, dried roses, porcelain/ceramic flowers, silk and artificial leaves, silk thread wiring, loops of faux pearls, beads, metal mirror. Cushion buttoned with gold flowers. These are rarer, more difficult to find than the all glass globes. The wedding couronne (crown) is beautiful. Groom’s boutonnière also present. Some flowers are very likely from bride’s original bouquet. In the 19th and early 20th century, Marriage Globes were gifted to be proudly displayed in the newly married couple’s home. Inside were often symbolic keepsakes to memorialize the marriage union, such as the bride’s wedding crown resting on a silk/velvet cushion. Many Globes have long lost their glass and are sold/displayed fully exposed to the elements. Each items would have been intentionally chosen for its symbolism: Orange Blossom - virginity; Rose - eternal love; Various Leave - loyalty and marriage longevity; Mirror - hope for children. Very Good Lovely Condition, especially for age: globe’s glass is fully intact, safely preserving all interior keepsakes: all three glass panels move—this is not a defect, simply how globe casing constructed; slight areas of oxidation to toleware/filigree; small tear on top side of cushion barely noticeable from side glass window. Back opens to access interior treasures, though not encouraged; to respect original antique preservation. Chateau Chic, Paris Apartment, Napoleon III Style. 10.5” H x 9.25” W x 6.5” D
