Description: Antique French Perfume Box w/ Pair Crystal Bottles, Marked; Up for sale is the French Victorian style oak perfume box with a pair of crystal bottles, dated late 19th century. The box with an veneered oak texture features an arched and hinged lid with a top handle. The exterior of the box is symmetrically covered all around with brass inlaid on which scrolled floral motifs are etched. There are seven oval-shaped convex cameos with hand painted and enameled birds and butterflies in varieties, located separately at each side of the box. The bottom is covered with a black faux leather. The set comes with an original key which functions well. The lock and hinges in brass also show the artwork of etching in a curly pattern, when the lid is left open. The interior of the box is covered all around with dark green velvet. The bottom is divided by a wood panel to locate the bottles. The crystal perfume bottles show a lattice cutting pattern and each lattice has five facets. The brass bottle caps, also showing the etched work with scrolled motifs, can be screwed on and off the bottle. A mark inside the cap can be seen when the shrunk cork is taken out. The mark reads “JH” in combination with other icons, including a female head, a panther or a lion, a letter “L”, and likely a goat’s head. In addition, the box is not only used as a container for perfume bottles, it can certainly be used as a beautiful jewelry box. Measures: Dimensions, Box, 7” wide x 3 ¾” deep x 5” high; Perfume bottles, 2 ¾” wide x 2 ¼” deep x 4” high; Weight, totally, 3 lbs & 4.6 oz (box, 1 lb & 9.6 oz + perfume bottles, 1 lb &11 oz). Condition: Good, sanitized and clean, with chips and damages to one crystal bottle at its bottom and shoulder (see last photo), while another one intact; with a shrunk cork in one cap of a bottle; rips of the faux leather at the bottom of the box, consistent with age and use.
