Description: Antique Georgian Knife Box / Cutlery Canteen - Serpentine front- Original fitted interior- Walnut with inlay- Canted lid opens on shield shaped hinges.- Lid interior inlaid with star motif and oval of box wood and ebony, as is the piping around the cutlery channels.- Silver lock escutcheon (lock plate) engraved with 'E M' monogram. - Silver lid lifting plate has a lion and shield motif. - Can accommodate 42 items of cutlery. Good condition: - Aged patina with some wear commensurate with use.- There has been some historical restoration which is shown in photo's but presents well on casual inspection. - Unsure of lock operation as there is no key.- Red baize to base is worn. - Never been converted which is to its merit. - Still fit for purpose. Family item, never previously marketed. Measures 14.25" or 36 cm tall.Width is 8.75" or 22 cm.Depth is 11" or 28 cm. I may have other Cutlery items listed.
