Description: Just one of inkFrog's Creations Description: Antique German Enamel Lucky Chimney Sweep Charm Engraved Detail This is a fine antique German or Austrian charm featuring a good luck/lucky chimney sweep. The charm is beautifully embellished with a scalloped-edge border, and engraved detail surrounding the black enameled figure. The enamel is in very good condition. It is a dainty charm measuring slightly under 1/2" in diameter. Although not stamped, the charm is made of at least .800 grade silver. The reverse bears a crudely engraved name to the reverse. Chimney sweeps in Europe were considered to bring good luck, especially if you touched the buttons on their uniform. Since chimney sweeps performed services at the beginning of the New Year, and were paid at that time for their service, it was lucky for them, and good luck for the home owner to be starting the New Year with a safe, clean chimney.
