Description: This is a finely rendered and well done Antique Old Desert Plein Air Landscape Painting, Pastels on Paper, depicting the famous Superstition Mountains, east of Phoenix, Arizona. This gorgeous artwork depicts the grandeur of this famous natural monument, with a lavender hued mountain vista, a pale blue sky above, and delicately painted desert shrubbery in the foreground. Signed and dated in the lower left corner: "R. Schessler '57" in the lower left corner. Additionally, this piece is partially titled on the remnants of the backing paper on the verso: "Superstit..." I could not find any information on this talented painter, but perhaps you know more about them or their work? Approximately 14 x 20 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 11 1/4 x 18 inches. Good condition for age, with some bits of loose paper under the glass at the lower edge, and mild scuffing, edge wear, and gilding loss to the original period antique gilded wood frame (please see photos.)
