Description: Bushy beard, dapper shirt, and suit coat anf vest, made in Providence, Rhode Island, good condition, crisp and sharp features, minor soiling Item 484296 ◊ ca. 1864, Civil War Era Carte De Visite (CDV) Photo of a Dashing Seated Gentleman A rare and original, "c1865 Civil War Era Carte De Visite, CDV Photo of a Handsome Seated Gentleman." It is an outstanding, period photograph, showing a 3/4 seated shot of a gentleman, with a very bushy beard, dapper shirt, and suit coat with vest. He has a look on his face, as if contemplating an important decision. The hair and beard style, the clothing and tie are typical of that era. The photo measures approx. 3-3/8" X 2-1/8" (8.8 cm. X 5.4 cm. ) and is mounted on its original beige Card Mount, which measures approx. 3-7/8" X 2-3/8" (9.9 cm. X 6.3 cm.) The photograph was produced by G. L. Hurd, whose photographic studio was located on Westminster St. in Providence, Rhode Island. He operated in that area in 1865-1866. This powerful CDV is in very good condition with crisp and sharp features, good tonality, and strong contrast. There is a mild amount soiling on the front, but no surface. It especially looks like someone left a thumb print at the top of the photo front. There is no edge or corner wear, although it looks like the phototographer cut the photo out by hand. The edges aren't cut particularly straight. The back is exceptionally clean though. Please see all of the photos above to confirm the condition and contents of this listing.
