Circa 1965 Group of Photographs of Marcel Breuer & The Whitney Museum of Art New York City Undergoing Construction. New York, NY: Two large and three smaller mounted photographs of the Whitney Museum while under construction. Four are black and white and one is a color interior view of finished work. The largest, 11 1/2" x 15" approx. size, shows Breuer & various personnel on site. Another image shows the signage announcing the "...Opening Mid 1966" temporary signage on the building, HRH Corp Builders on the crane equipment scaffolding, construction vehicles and passers-by. A 7" x 9 1/4" image shows workers on a break sitting in one of the as-yet-unframed windows. An interior view shows the inside scaffolding used to install the hanging ceilings from the steel beams, with workers. The 7 1/4" x 9 1/4" color image is of a completed office reception area on the ground floor, with lighting and furniture. Marcel Lajos Breuer 1902-1981) international industrial designer & educator was the architect for this New York City modernist project, opened in 1966. No photographer or studio noted. All the images have been mounted on thin 1/8" foamcore (one with note stating this on back) and have edge & tips wear, with fine surface crinkling lines; the large Breuer image’s surface line-scored; the color image corner chipped and with closed edge-tear at top.
