Description: This is almost like nothing I've ever seen before. I was lucky enough to handle a Williams and Mary tiger maple butterfly end table a few years back that was colonial in origin except it had a replacement top as the thin tiger tops notoriously warped. So that's the only other colonial tiger I've owned. I do have a colonial era Chippendale style mirror but that's in a Burl veneer. But back to this incredible piece. Beautiful tiger maple striping the top seems to have a live edge on the open side which is very unusual and just goes to show they used every piece of wood they could. The hinges look like they're hand forged by a blacksmith as do the nails. Please study images carefully. If for any reason you're unhappy with this purchase, feel free to return it with no questions asked return policy. As I do believe it is colonial and I'm confident in saying so. I believe if you get your hands on it and open it up and smell the interior you'll just be in love with this piece as I am. Do not find quality colonial pieces often. The dovetails on this are the finest I've ever seen. Please look closely. The backboard to the lid where the hinges attach seems to have been replaced. The Craftsman did a very good job in matching it up and doing a stain job to hide the fact that this is a replacement piece, but a hinged piece that has over 200 years on it will wear out and just like the Williams and Mary table that had the replacement top. Anything that's been around this long will likely have some touch up. I'm just glad they did a good job at it and you really have to look or have it pointed out to notice but I wanted to be clear in that. Overall measures about 21 and 1/2 in wide, 11 in deep and 10 in tall. Great Size for dresser top or to start a floor stack or mid-floor stack. Super beautiful and deserves a prominent place in your home. The eBay categories don't even have a time period For something this early to choose from for this category... Great patina great condition. Beautiful wood striping original hinges great smell no mildew or concerns of any kind still sturdy.
