Description: This Listing is for the - KK4HXJ - Deluxe B&K 277/290 assembled test probe set The B&K 277/290 are FET VOMs or "Solid State VTVMs" which used a switchable test probe like most VTVMs of the day - These meters have special needs these meters are especially subject to RF inteference on low voltage ranges and shielding of test leads is imperitive, the design uses a BNC connector to help maintain shielding and an adapter to mate to meters Banana plugs - this makes a much more durable probe than mating to Banana Plugs directly and makes it easier to maintain the ever important shielding! This auction is for a completely assembled set of test probes for the B&K 277 and 290 meters and includes a Banana plug to BNC adapter This probe is identical to my Simpson 313 Series probe, except it uses a 100K Ohm Resistor instead of a 1 Meg Resistor and needs to be adapted to dual banana plugs This is hand assembled by me using components from my popular Deluxe VTVM probe kits sold here on eBay, using my methods and good attention to detail. The unit is presented in a Labeled, Retail Quality, Reusable, 4 Mil Poly Ziplock Bag and is wrapped with a Reusable Velcro Strip to keep the leads organized and ready. This dual probe setup, serves as a substitute for the mostly missing or incomplete original test probe which used a switch at the tip of the probe to switch the Resistor in/out of the circuit. This Siamese or Dual-Probe arrangement involves using one probe for DC Measurement (with the resistor installed) and the other probe for AC/Ohms Measurement. The probes are built from my kit which is composed of the following items (many of which are hard to source economically): 1 Pair of Genuine Philmore Test Probes - 1 Red/1 Black 1 BNC connector with heat shrink Sleeve 1 100K Ohm 1/2 Watt Resistor 1 Alligator Clip & Heat Shrink Tubing 2 Laminated Self Adhesive Probe Labels and Clear Heat Shrink Tubing to cover the probe labels, resulting in a professional and durable setup (see photos) 2 36" lengths of RG174 Coaxial Wire (used for DC & AC/Ohms test Leads) (Very Flexible - makes a great test lead) 1 36" Length of 18 Gauge Rubber Test Lead Wire (Very Flexible - High Quality) for the Ground Lead The original instructions specify shielded cable for the leads, the original supplied wire was a coaxial microphone style wire, many people use either standard (unshielded) test probe wire for the leads or a shielded coaxial cable, I use shielded black RG174 for the 2 leads and Black test probe wire for the ground - this is particularly important for this meter I have shipped these probes and kits to several dozen countries and have received nothing but praise for bot the kits and probes, I think you too will be pleased with this simple and durable set to get that old meter back in service!
