Description: Droll Stories, Balzac, 1928, Garden City/Liveright. - 6.6 x 9.75 inches approx.; 352 pages.- approx. 35 full-page engravings....fantastic period art. - this is a complete set of the 30 stories, in three groups. - Internet: "Droll Stories, a collection of short stories by Honoré de Balzac, was published in three sets of 10 stories each, in 1832, 1833, and 1837, as Contes drolatiques. Rabelaisian in theme, the stories are written with great vitality in a pastiche of 16th-century language. The tales are fully as lively as the author’s masterful Comédie humaine series, but they stand apart for their good-humoured licentiousness and historical wordplay." Condition: Very Good Condition, or nearly so for these classic stories. Cover shows minor wear to gold lettering and designs, which have been lightly touched up. Hinges/binding are tight/strong...no spine cracks. No owner name. No apparent age-tanning to interior paper...only right inside both boards. The last few pages show slight moisture rippling near spine...difficult to spot. Otherwise, no marks, stains, tears, or creases. Book is robust for normal use.
