Description: My artwork was inspired during the past decade as it makes reference to my own personal experiences and environment as a resident in Los Angeles's District 14 during times of high crime, social and political conflict and corruption in L.A. City Hall. Living in the midst of this crisis in one of the most impacted neighborhoods of the East side at the time served as a marker for developing this series of work. Just when I felt I could endure no more, the Pandemic hit and these ill-fated times were coined " The New Normal". Decadent and dystopian with all it's madness an apocalyptic social climate unfolded. These have been life-changing years and experiences for all of us including artists, the " visual story-tellers". My name is Irasela Guzman. The person behind the artist Sela GU-GO and creator of GUGO4Mankind, a partnership with my husband Lual GUGO. The Mission of GUGO4Mankind (GUGO4M) is to provide social awareness while promoting positive change through a post-modern visual reflection. This is done through narrative painting that mirrors the collapse of a modern urban society. Both my husband and I are hoping to reach out to those Americans who have witnessed lived or experienced these life-changing dramatic events or to those fellow Americans and people around the world who identify or are simply curious to collect work inspired by this past decade through the perspective of an Angelenean artist. ABOUT THE ARTIST: After 2 years of studies in Architecture at the University of Southern California, at the age of 17, I was drawn to the Fine Arts. Here I had the privilege of studying under reputable artists such as Bob Alderette, Kiki Samarcelli and Robbie CONAL ( THE AMERICAN GUERRILLA POSTER ARTIST) with whom I learned the foundations of creating political artwork such as poster art illustration. Having changed majors I began taking courses at East Los Angeles College where I was able to continue studying the arts, further developing a love for both creating digital graphics through vector art and also for painting. My professor Mr Uyekawa, there assisted in having a panel select a diptych painting I created to exhibit in a student juried art show in 1998 when I was 22 yrs old. at the Vincent Price Gallery. During those years, the Vincent Price Museum was still a small gallery accessible to ELAC college students of Hispanic heritage.A few years later, inspired by the world of fashion, as a young woman I attended The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising ( FIDM) in Los Angeles where I also met Mr Perelman, a professor of color theory and Fine Artist; someone who was very encouraging toward my artistic endeavor. Here I was both a student and an illustration tutor and received my A.A. in Visual Communications and Merchandising and graduated with honors.* If you'd like to view more of my artworks in the making please visit my Instagram page and view my profile @ : gugo_4mankind * Please Get To Know Me : My Facebook account is pending and will be listed soon! :)*** ALL MY ARTWORKS ARE SIGNED AND INCLUDE A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY PURCHASING MORE THAN ONE???
