Laid in letter signed in green ink and folded twice, with adhesive ghosting to all corners. Until 1955, children's films played a very small role at the Edinburgh Film Festival. This report marks the first time that children's films were played over the course of a week; an undertaking that was largely spearheaded by the producer and director, Mary Field, who was made a CBE in 1951 and awarded an OBE in 1950 for her services to educational and children's films. This copy of the report was sent with a letter by Mary Field to fellow filmmaker and producer Cecille Starr. Starr taught film and film history at Columbia University from 1955 to 1961, wrote four books on film, and wrote for the Saturday Review and the New York Times. In the letter that accompanies the report, Field thanks Starr for providing the Film Council of America "rushes", which were unedited raw footage, of the fourth part of Field's lecture at the festival. It is unknown whether the report was sent to Starr along with the letter, or if they were conveniently grouped together by Starr. Regardless, these two complementary items bring to light the professional relationship of two notable women in film history.
