Description: Lot details Lovers. Mixed media (tempera, oil, gold color) painting on paper. Size of the present painting is 28.2 x 20.4 centimeters. Signature Gustav Klimt can be found in the lower right margin of the painting. This artwork is also marked on reverse by a previous collection mark (reference number in pencil and stamp). The work is in very good condition for its age, colors create the desired contrast, are vivid and are well preserved, but we also notice minor yellowing of the paper. Klimt first achieved acclaim as a decorative painter of historical scenes and figures through his many commissions to embellish public buildings. He continued to refine the decorative qualities so that the flattened, shimmering patterns of his nearly-abstract compositions, what is now known as his "Golden Phase" works, ultimately became the real subjects of his paintings. With this work comes a Certificate of authenticity & registration of the painting at Fine Arts Registry and a transfer of ownership. The artwork is described in the documentation and offered as unique artwork, in manner of the artist, sold as-is. The artwork was acquired in estate liquidation sale in France. His forcefulness and international fame as the most famous Art Nouveau painter contributed much to the Secession's early success. Despite his fame and generosity in mentoring younger artists, including Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka, Klimt produced virtually no direct followers and his work has consistently been regarded as highly personal and singular, even up to the present day.
