Description: P Vintage Hand Carved Hardwood Primitive Folk Art Unsigned Pig Brown with Black Highlights For Your Folk Art or Wood Carvings Collection-PigCarving1 Details Description: A hand carved hardwood Folk-Art Pig. The carving shows a pig standing on all four with his tail curled on the back and his ears perked-up. The pig is brown colored with black splotches on his back and the edge of his perked ears. The pig has two carved eyes, a carved mouth, and two carved nostrils on the front of his snout. The body of the pig is colored in brown, which we believe represents a finished surface coloring of the hard wood used in the carving, and has several oval or round black highlights on its back as well as on the tip of its ears. The finish shows the wood grain and the piece looks great. The pig has a smooth finish throughout except on the bottom between the legs where you can see signs of the carving knife. The piece is unsigned but was obviously made by an accomplished carver as evidenced by the quality of the carving. The details show eyes, a mouth, a snout, and perked ears. A very nice piece of folk art made by an accomplished carver. A nice piece of folk art to add to your Collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Unknown, but most likely mid to late 1900s (mid to late 20thh century). Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in southeastern Pennsylvania. Size: Measures ~3 7/8" at its highest (to the top of the ears), with the pig being ~8" long, and ~2 1/4" at its widest. The piece weighs slightly over 13 ounces. Maker: Unknown. Marks: Unmarked. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice and interesting hardwood carving, which would make a worthy addition to your collection. Condition: The carving is in very good condition. The piece has no breaks, cracks, or repairs. It is all original with some minor soiling, minor surface wear, and a minimum of color loss. It has a few scratches and some minor dings. The finish shows the wood grain and the piece looks great. The pig has a smooth finish throughout except on the bottom between the legs where you can see signs of the carving knife. there is also a line that goes all around the front left leg, which maybe a crack, but is smooth with the leg and does not represent a ridge suggesting that it is solid and stable and not a repair. Finally, the bottom of the legs of the pig are not smoothed, and actually have notches in them, which we believe are original to the making. Be that as it may, this is a nice carving for your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information. Our Guarantee Please view our 100% positive feedback and bid with confidence.
