Please excuse any glare in the photos. This painting depicts Mission San Juan Capistrano in Orange County, California. There are trees and red flowers in the landscape. This watercolor on paperboard or thin cardboard is unframed. It measures approximately 9 5/8 inches by 13 1/8 inches. Unpacked, this piece weighs 2.6 ounces. This painting would make a good addition to a collection of vintage fine art. Identification This painting is by Henry Leopold Richter (1887-1960), a listed artist on askART. The exact age of this vintage piece is not known. Per askART, Richter was born in Austria. He moved to Chicago in 1887. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he exhibited in 1904. He studied under E. A. Burbank. Richter worked as a commercial artist, and he taught at Western State Teachers College in Gunnison, Colorado. He also taught at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1919, he relocated to California, and he lived in Long Beach and Laguna, where his studio was located. Richter retired in 1939; he moved to Rolling Hills, California, where he lived until his passing in 1960. He exhibited at the California Watercolor Society, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and at the Laguna Beach Art Association. Richter worked in oils and watercolors. Condition This unframed painting looks very good overall, as shown. There are a few minor surface marks. The edges have been neatly trimmed a bit, because they were damaged.
