Description: 539A Hickok - Tube tester.Calibrated in 1966 by Standards Lab and in 2015 by Roger Kennedy."Professionally restored and calibrated by Roger Kennedy. Critical capacitors have been replaced, as well as a critical potentiometer." quote from the previous owner. The 9 pin socket was worn and loose and has been replaced. A socket saver was added.Added 3 digit voltage meter and panel mount binding posts.Replaced 83 tube with regulated solid state rectifier from elderlyelectronics99 (ebay seller).5Y3 rectifier tests good.Scroll chart works smoothly. Very nice.Includes user manual and test data.Includes multimeter for plate current measurement via panel binding posts. The original voltage meter does not work and is replaced with the more accurate digital read out. The case has seen better days. It's solid but the covering is patched up with tape. I include plate current measurements not just transconductance when testing. Sometimes easy to forget some of the set up details when doing a new test session. The plate current shunt bridge is opened. The digital multimeter is set to DC current (DC mA) and plugged into the plate current jacks. Note: The tester will not work unless the Plate Current posts are shunted OR if they are open, must be connected to a multimeter for plate readings, the multimeter MUST be ON. This is a simple error that can cause some confusion when you begin a new session. Just ask me (and the guy that sold it to me.)The images show a 45 power tube under test and the plate current measurement set up.
