When a beekeeper is extracting honey from the comb, the first thing he does is remove the cappings from the honeycombs to facilitate the extracting process, and these cappings contain a lot of pollen grains, so eating cappings along with honey exposes one's immune system to even more pollen than just honey. Bees secrete wax which they form into honeycomb. They fill with honey and cap it. The longer the honeycombs stay in the hive, the darker they get until the cappings will be very dark after a few months. This is because the bees are constantly bringing propolis into the hive to seal the cracks and spread around the hive to destroy bacteria harmful to the bees. In the wild, inside hollow trees, the bees coat the walls inside the hollow tree with the propolis which stops the wood from rotting. The bees bring the propolis into the hive in their pollen baskets on their legs and it is deposited on the cappings as they travel over the honeycomb. Therefore the caps become dark from the propolis. The main benefit of the cappings is that you get that propolis, pollen and minerals when you eat/chew the dark cappings. This product can be taken by the spoonful by itself or you can slather on a piece of bread or cracker to eat.These cappings are saturated with honey which was recently extracted.
