Description: According to the jacket blurb “readers of Mr. Gibran’s earlier work, The Prophet, will know what to expect in this book. Here is the same poet, with the same purity of thought, the same amplitude and beauty phrase, the same wisdom, serenity, and lofty vision… Jesus is portrayed through the words of 77 contemporaries who knew him both enemies and friends. This new addition restores the original format, for some years available, and includes two paintings by Gibran reproduced and full color as well as 12 drawings reproduced in aqua tone.” This is a hardcover book that is generally in good shape, though it does show signs of wear and aging, with some discolored edges to the pages. There is a dust cover, but it is in shreds as you can see from the picture there is no writing in the book except for someone’s name inside the front cover. I am retired priest and I’m looking for a good home from any of the books that I have collected over the years. While this was originally written in 1928, this is the 1964 edition which marks the 20th printing of the book. You might be interested in this book if you know of Gibran‘s other works. But even if you don’t, the way I would use this book today were I still in a parish, would be to spark my imagination for either a message series or a Bible study by looking at the interactions between Jesus and many of the 77 characters portrayed in this book. Indeed my imagination is sparking already on what I could do with these short literary pictures.
