Description: BismuthLaboratory Grownex. Eric Hendrix Collection 123.6 grams5 x 4.5 x 4.5cm (2 x 1.7 x 1.7in) This is a large man-made crystal of bismuth. It exhibits aesthetic hopper crystals and a rainbow sheen from bismuth oxides. Bismuth has a low melting temperature and complex crystals can be grown by melting it on the stovetop, letting it cool, and pulling out the crystal before the rest of the liquid solidifies around it. This piece is from the collection of Eric Hendrix. Eric was a hydrogeologist consultant with a masters in geology from UCLA.
