TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY MELVIN PURVIS DESCRIBING HIS WORLD TOUR SHORTLY AFTER JOHN DILLINGER’S DEATH AND INITIATING CONTACT WITH AUTHOR WILLIAM SAROYAN REGARDING A STORY ON HIS CAPTURE OF DILLINGER Typed letter signed by Melvin Purvis with his initials describing his world tour shortly after John Dillinger’s death and initiating contact with author William Saroyan regarding a story on his capture of Dillinger: “I am enjoying the trip. As you know by this time I stopped in London at first for about a week and then came on over to Paris. Then I went back to London for another week by place across the English Channel. I stayed there another week and then came back to Paris yesterday afternoon. My present plans are not so definite as to dates; I do know, however, that I will fly over to Berlin and Geneva, Switzerland sometime this coming week. I am going to stay in both places only a few days each and then come back to Paris again. After that my plans are not made and in all probability I shall set sail for the United States...Please send it to Wm. Saroyan. It is about his writings.” The letter is one page, measures 10.5 by 7 inches, created in Paris, France on June 13, 1937, and in fine condition with only minor paper loss to the bottom left corner.
