It is freezing in the winter I bought one of the Mountain hardware Jackets (a synthetic padded not down) 2 years ago . I love it !! It claims it is tested to -22 F . Well its really warm if you are just a normal person standing at a bus stop in winter, with a fleece underneath as a layer. In my opinion it’s a perfect comfort level as cold as 25 f degrees. It holds up to wind much better than any other jacket that I have owned.But the real amazing thing about this jacket is you can go from 25 degrees and walk in a store, shop for 20 minutes and not be sweating like crazy.THAT is why I love this jacket. It does not retain moisture once you are inside at 70 degrees. Now I am not climbing mountains or hiking up a hill in the middle of England, I am walking 3o feet to my car , driving to the store and shopping for 20 minutes . Period !!! Every once in a while I am hiking up a hillside in England and this jacket is great for that purpose but in the real world it is 100 percent perfect just walking in 25 degree weather even if it’s really windy. I walk every day rain or shine snow or heat for at least 30 minutes so I have thoroughly tested this jacket. So if your weather is 25 to 55 degrees this is the best jacket bar none. AND I am obsessed by jackets. I have tried Columbia, Lands end , North Face , Eddie Bauer. And if you have a down jacket yes it’s very warm but the moment you walk in a store after being in 20 degree weather after 5 minutes walking around Target I have to take the jacket off. I am too hot inside for a down jacket. So what a pain in the butt you got to carry your “down ,very expensive jacket “ around the store “DOWN” is good for some place in Antarctica but REALLY who lives at the South Pole ? I did so much research into the synthetic padding insulation in the jackets. And it comes down to how much insulation the maker of the jacket puts in. Do they put in 3 oz of insulation or 10 oz . A similar North face jacket is $270. I think these are the most comfortable jackets to just hang out in cold weather, drive to the store walk around the store and drive back. I am are 5’ 7” and 140lbs waist of 31 inches and this fits me perfectly , So if you are bigger than that then this is not the jacket for you
