Description: British Parliament 1925 Vintage LithograpMolly Pitcher Loading Cannon at Battle of Monmouth, Trenton, NJ 1778 - 1906 Half-Tone Print A dramatization of a person or event in American History. Molly Pitcher (born 1754, near Trenton, New Jersey [U.S.]—died January 22, 1832, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, U.S.) was a heroine of the Battle of Monmouth during the American Revolution. According to legend, at the Battle of Monmouth (June 28, 1778), Mary Hays, wife of artilleryman William Hays, carried water to cool both the cannon and the soldiers in her husband’s battery—hence the nickname “Molly Pitcher.” Legend also asserts that when William Hays collapsed or was wounded, she took her husband’s place in the gun crew for the rest of the battle. Print depicts scene of Molly at the cannon--- Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Size: Approximately 8" X 5" Blank on Reverse Condition: Excellent - Very Good - Good - Fair - Poor (but of historical interest) << Click Here to See Other Prints >> This is an Original Item(s) - Not a Reproduction Important: P/H is combined on multiple items that can be mailed together. The Nature of Prints & Engravings: It was not until the 20th century that prints were commonly produced for the print itself. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty. SPECIAL NOTE ON P/H: If purchasing multiple items, sometimes Ebay combines P/H correctly... sometimes not. Fill free to request a combined invoice before paying.
