Description: Known in Italy as Lunaria o Moneta del Papa, which translates as the Pope's money (because he is not allowed to carry any!). It's also known as Honesty, Money Plant, Silver Dollars, and (in The Netherlands) as Judaspenning (coins of Judas), an allusion to the story of Judas Iscariot and the 30 pieces of silver he was paid to betray Jesus. Obviously, this widely grown plant reminds people of coins. It has pink and purple flower clusters atop tall, strong stems. As the flowers decline, they produce flat seed pods. The pods dry to an unappealing, dirty-looking tan color. But peel off the outer layers of the seed pod and inside is a silvery, translucent structure that makes a beautiful winter bouquet. Lunaria is a biennial that will self-seed if you leave some of the seed pods in the garden. Growing Money Plant SeedsPlant Money Plant Seeds: Direct sow Money Plant into the garden after all danger of frost in groups of 3-4 seeds spaced 12-18 in. apart. Germination occurs over a period 14-28 days. Thin to the strongest plant. Can be started early indoors in 2 in. pots.Grow Money Plant: Grow plants in full sun, part sun, or light shade. Prefers moist soil, will tolerate dry soil in shady gardens. Flowers attract bees and butterflies. Flowers and seed pods are excellent for cutting. Money Plants are rabbit and deer resistant. These seeds are from plants grown and harvested in Downeast Maine. The genesis of these plants are seeds from Italy - that were planted in Canada, then brought to Maine. So they are very hearty in Zone 5 BYou will receive 50 ct fresh seeds to plant and enjoy!
