Description: Mouseketeer National Bank MICKEY MOUSE CLUB Check 1961Walt Disney Mouseketeers Vintage Mickey Mouse Club Treasures from Saturday's Toys presents... an original paper check from the Mouseketeer National Bank. Circa 1961 Issued to "Jim Kelly" of Pilltown, Pennsylvania in the "pretend" amount of $1,200.00 Written in pencil and signed by "J.C. Dithers." Fans of the Chic Young "Blondie" comics may recall that Blondie's husband, Dagwood Bumstead (originator of the famed "Dagwood Sandwich"), was employed by an antagonistic boss who assisted in creating much of the comedic tension that was central to many of the comic strip's stories. J.C. Dithers' full name: Julius Caesar Dithers. Document measures approx. 2.75" x 6.25' in good condition; well worn during original play during the late 1950's and 1960's. Last used in 1961. It appears that the kids used the check a few times as they would erase the pencil inscriptions and start again. The location of "Pilltown" actually exists in Pennsylvania (within the township of Jenner, PA)... and only a stones throw from Boswell. The check logo includes a tiny reference to Walt Disney Productions... on the iconic logo design often credited to Walt Disney Studio artist Bruce Bushman (1911 - 1972). Bushman's father, Francis X. Bushman, was one of the most popular early stars of silent films, including the original "Ben Hur" (1925). As one of the most successful stars in Hollywood at that time, he was known to have provided the land upon which Grauman's Chinese Theatre was constructed and opened in 1927. The document was created at S.W. Dow, Inc. in Brockton, Massachusetts; and was marketed during the late 1950's. This vintage paper item provides a unique offering that is reflective of the enormous success of this landmark television show from the Walt Disney Studio in Burbank, California. About Us Combined Shipping Available Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 16,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe. Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers): "Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
