NEW 1958-63 AUSTIN HEALEY SPRITE / MG MIDGET REAR MONROE TUBE SHOCK CONVERSION

Description: (1) 1958-1962.5 NEW AUSTIN HEALEY BUGEYE SPRITE & MG MIDGET REAR TUBE SHOCK CONVERSION KIT, WITH BRACKETS, BOLTS AND MONROE SENSA-TRAC SHOCKS. This is for a rear tube shock conversion for the 1958-1960 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprites MK 1 with rear ¼ elliptic springs. These brackets will also work on the 1961-1962.5 Austin Healey Sprite MK 2 (some 1963 might have 1/4 elliptical rear suspension) & the 1961-1962 MG Midget MK 1 (some 1963 might have 1/4 elliptical rear suspension). Using these brackets, hardware and shocks you can replace the factory rear lever shocks with new style tube shocks. For installation you will only need to drill two holes in the in the bottom brackets on the axle where the original level shock links attached (one on each side). The pictures below show the brackets installed with shocks. I have used this set-up on many Bugeye Sprites with no problems over the past 15 years. Using tube shocks greatly increases the ride quality over the lever shock. I HAVE SOLD 100+ SETS. Brackets are now powdercoated black. This auction includes quantity 2 NEW MONROE SENSA-TRAC tube shocks that have been modified to work on this application. It also includes Grade 5 hardware with locking nuts and detailed instructions. The modified Monroe shocks have had the upper metal shock boot (dust cover) removed. They also have had the stock mounting sleeve modified and a conversion sleeve included at 2 per shock. The lower shock mount brackets have multiple holes so there is a variety of shocks and sizes that can be used. The lower brackets are CNC plasma cut and made of 3/16" steel. With these brackets you can even use adjustable shocks. This brackets are cut slightly larger than the bolt size so that it will fit on these older cars. The Monroe® Sensa-Trac® passenger car shock absorber with PSD (position sensitive damping) and the Safe Tech™ system combines our exclusive precision tapered grooves in the pressure tube with application engineered valving and Fluon banded piston to improve the ride, handling, and safety characteristics of the vehicle. These features allow the Monroe Sensa-Trac passenger car shock absorber to adjust more rapidly to changing road and weight conditions than any other available shock absorber. The result: enhanced control with uncompromised ride comfort. All Weather Fluid: Contains special modifiers to reduce friction and ensure smooth rod reaction. Full Displaced Valving: Tuned specifically for each application, this valving automatically adjusts to road extremes to provide consistency and ride comfort. 1-3/16" Bore: Larger bore than most shocks to provide more efficient and consistent control. Fluon Banded Piston: Works with the existing groove tube technology to enhance responsiveness to changing road conditions. Unique Groove Tube - PSD: Precision tapered grooves in the pressure tube perform like an additional stage of valving for optimum ride tuning. Nitrogen Gas Charged: For improved ride and handling, helps maintain tire to road contact by reducing aeration. Special Seal: "Self-lubricating" fluid seal designed to retain gas without excessive wear or friction. Email me if you do not know if your car has 1/4 elliptical springs. Rear 1/4 elliptical springs are only half of a "normal 1/2 elliptical" rear suspension leaf spring setup. They mount towards the front of the vehicle and do not extend past the rear axle. The pictures that show a black shock are the correct Monroe shock. The Monroe shocks have been modified and will show signs up close of where the dust cover and mounting sleeve were removed. This shock was designed to be used with a dust cover so keep in mind that by removing it, there is a slight possibility of shortened life since the shaft will be exposed to the elements now.
