Description: Offered to you is this holster used by the Schutzpolzei, the largepolice departments that provided law enforcement and riot protection during the turbulent interwar years. The Treaty of Versailles restricted the size of the Weimar police forces (quasi military units) between 1920 and 1937. During the Weimar Era, German police power was decentralized. It centered in the federal states of Prussia, Bavaria, Baden, Wuerttemberg, Hesse, Saxony, and others. These were the city and rural police groups: Schutzmannschaft: old Imperial Royal police. (1871-1919) Sicherheitspolizei: created by the Prussian government in 1919 to control civil violence and disorder during the period between the Armistice and the begining of the Allied Occupation. Dissolved on October 6, 1920. Along with the Schutzmannschaft it was reformed into the Schutzpolizei during the early 1920's. Schutzpolizei: The large city police departments/and riot squads. By 1932 it consisted of 92,306 men. This is a post WW1 conversion of a P08 holster. designed for the Luger. It exhibits the typical black dye applied over the original, as issued, brown leather of the pre-1916 service holster. Stamped on the back is the assigned police unit - "S.Mg.7.89". This identifies the holster as belonging to the Schutzpolizei department in the Magdaburg Germany district, precinct number 7, Weapon number 89. The holster has been well used. Despite deficiencies in the stitching, especially the flap hinge, it is in remarkable condition. The lifting strap is stiff with age and nearly broken. The holster was not stored properly, at one time and the flap developed a malformation that has hardened. Despite all this, the deficiencies could be repaired if one chose to go that route.
