Description: Photograph Notes: Whitlands Hywel Dda Centre has been purpose-built to celebrate the memory of this famous C10 Welsh king. His greatest achievement was to codify a body of law by summoning representatives and wise men to meet at his White House on the Taf. They thrashed out the existing laws, agreed on the appropriate fines and penalties for specified offences, and recorded them in manuscripts which constituted the first law books. One remarkable feature of these laws was their recognition of the legal status of women and children, something more or less unique in the mediaeval period.
