Tucker & Co., dry goods, clothing, notions and toilet articles, with 3-story image of a store building; No marking or writing found. David L. Swain, of Buncombe County, was Governor of North Carolina 1832-1835, and was President of the University of North Carolina 1835-1868; There is a mild half-circle water-stain at the lower outer edges of most of the pages, not visible on front or rear cover; Mild browning to the text portion of each page, and very light soil and wear to covers; The first "address" of 39 pages was delivered Aug. 24, 1867; The second "address" of 19 pages was delivered June 4, 1867; The first two fold-out maps are approximately 20" x 14", and the last map is about 12" x 14"; The last map, the smallest, lists population enumeration for Raleigh on March 23, 1807 to be: White males, 255; White females, 178; Free persons of color, 33; Slaves, 270,for a total of 726, an undercount of 10, since the four sub-totals amount to 736; The maps for 1834 and 1847 show owner name on each lot. This remarkable resource has had careful handling these many years, and will be a treasure for some future owner. A truly beautiful copy of this work. Not Ex-Lib.
