Description: For sale is an authentic antique hand forged blacksmith made 1700s / 18th century colonial American 5ft 2 inch Chain Trammel. Every link, hanger and hook of this chain is hand forged before the days of industrial production. Trammels were made to hang in fire places and suspend cooking pots over the fire. The height of the pot was adjusted by lifting different links and hanging them on the hook at the top to shorten the chain. The chain trammel was the alternative option to the sawtooth trammel. The item is in excellent antique condition which is a challenge to achieve with the many links of chain trammels. All connections and links remains secure. The item has no rust and is structurally stable. It hangs and displays nicely. Age appropriate minor surface wears and imperfections are to be expected. Please study the pictures carefully before committing to buy. Overall, this is a classical example that showcases the 1700s colonial American blacksmith craftsmanship. A great display item for collectors of early wrought iron antiquity /early Americana /primitive fireplace and hearth tool. Feel free to check out my other antique and collectible listings (many more fireplace hearth items). I gladly combine shipping whenever practical.
