Description: Rare Vintage PH Leonard Vienna, Austria AUS6/TK Thuny (Thun) "Victorian Rose" Porcelain Dinnerware. Each piece in this listing is priced individually. I welcome offers for the entire set. Pattern Description: Pink Roses and White Five Petal Flowers, Green Leaves, Scalloped, Gold Line with Gold Trim. Made in Bohemia, Austria or Czechoslovakia. Makers Marks: First, most of the pieces in this listing have the printed green imported mark of 'Crown-VIENNA-AUSTRIA'. Although Replacements, Ltd. attributes this china pattern, among others, to a generic manufacturer of "Austria", it would seem that this is more likely related to the U.S. (New York) importers of PH Leonard (ca. 1885 until 1898), or Bawo & Dotter (ca. 1898 to ?), or Charles L. Dwenger (ca. 19?? until 1915), or Paul A. Straub & Company, Inc. (1915 until 1970). They all used this printed green imported mark of 'Crown-VIENNA-AUSTRIA' as shown on this set of china, with no exact known dates of use. Secondly, several of the pieces have the maker's mark of 'Thuny Czechoslovakia' (a/k/a Thun), instead of the Vienna mark, and one oval serving bowl has a 'Crown-TK-Czechoslovakia' mark, also used by Thuny. The pattern name for this pattern by Thuny is "Victorian Rose". The dates of these 'Thuny Czechoslovakia' marks seems to be from the 1920s or 1930s, definitely after WWI. Therefore it is logical to see that these were manufactured for export by Thuny, but marked with the 'Crown-VIENNA-AUSTRIA' printed mark. See photos. All of these items were from one large item family supposed to be like the porcelain originally produced at the former Royal Porcelain Factory in Vienna and the mark used on these items was actually a dedicated export mark owned by the Gräflich Thun'sche Porzellanfabrik Klösterle and had previously been used on items handled by three New York importers: PH Leonard had been the first until his bankruptcy in 1898. He was succeeded by Bawo & Dotter who took his place for a short time before being replaced by Charles L. Dwenger, followed by Straub around 1915. Logically nobody can nowadays say who actually imported specific items based on the mark alone. A number of impressed marks exists on this fine china as well; most of these are Thuny's 'TK' initials. Condition: Very good near antique condition. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. Signs of previous are present including light utensil scratches and light shelf wear. Light wear to the gold trim may exist on some pieces, such as the creamer handle. See photos.
