It’s made of a thin cotton t-shirt type knit with double layers at the bodice band, the long straps that can cross 0-1-2 times because they’re long enough because of its odd shape. It rises from a wide hem band and gets wider up until it pleats into a precisely cut band. You can see the tiny pleats going into the band; were it a sturdy fabric, it would look balloony, like you’re hiding an egg. But the soft cloth kind of collapses into a gentle fullness. This is from a brief burst in the mid-aughts where Mr. Gigli secured funding for a collection mainly in cottons that came out in the mid-2000s and was shunted off to the outlet malls pretty quickly. I have a pair of pants up from the same label and collection. I hope we get a few more collections – his stuff shows up as Fuzzi, for the Joyce line from time to time, and I’ve stumbled on stuff he did for Eggs, I assume London, and for Boule de Neige, a French catalog. He lost control of his brand to his girlfriend and her lawyer in the mid-1990s, but his extraordinary talent shines through wherever he draws. So study the pictures.
