It was established to mark the end of the Crimean War (1853-1856) and on the occasion of the coronation of Alexander II.The medal "In memory of the war of 1853-1856" awarded a wide range of people, both those who fought in the Crimean War, and who were in the rear. The medal drawing was approved on March 30, 1856. The medal was officially established on August 26, 1856 by Alexander II in a special manifesto “On the Most Gracious Giving of Mercy to the People on the Occasion of the Coronation of His Imperial Majesty”. The medal had two options: light bronze and dark bronze, in addition, there was a gradation in the type of ribbon for wearing.Medals were minted in light or dark bronze. The diameter of the medals is 28 mm. On the front side are the monograms emperors Nicholas I and Alexander II. Above each monogram there was a large imperial crown, above them - a shining all-seeing eye. Below, under monograms, in a semicircle, along the side of the coin, the years of the Crimean War: “1853-1854-1855-1856. ". On the back there is a horizontal inscription in five lines, a quote from the Psalter: ON YOUThe LORDUPOVAHOM YESDO NOT BE ASHAMEDAT THE TIME. The Psalter, Kathisma 4, Psalm 30, line 2 contains this inscription: “On Thou, Lord, up spring, let not I be ashamed forever: Thou shalt deliver Thy truth and me.” In the synodal translation this line is given as follows: “I trust in Thee, Lord, that I will not be ashamed forever; in thy righteousness deliver me ”(Psalm 30: 2 ).
