This sale includes the three-piece set of Saint John only, shown in the first 17 pictures in the gallery & video. These were among dozens of sets owned by the collector we obtained them from & we have more coming as time allows. Wow! Scarce F. E. Dietz SAINT JOHN girandole/candelabra set. Classic 1850's Victorian look to compliment a special space or room. Features the Apostle John with a cross surrounded by an olive tree and floral plants. A tree rises behind him with branching arms on the candelabra extending to fancy bobeches. These are marked by F. E. Dietz, Patent 1852 on the back. Only a couple of these sets have ever hit the market & only 2 in 25 plus years on eBay. These are always tougher to find in sets of three. This has both the 3 Arm Candelabra and 2 Side Candlesticks. All are set on two-tiered marble bases with metal brass/bronze dividers. Just has a really great look. These candelabra's & side pieces would often be placed tables or shelfs in front of mirrors to produce even more light & add beauty to the area in which they were placed. We included 12 hanging casket style crystals that are from the era, but you could add more, swap them out or mix and match. The crystals have some wear & chips and the top glass pieces are not all identical, but they look good with the set. The candalbra & candlesticks are very solid but the bases have some wear and minor staining as shown in pictures. We left them just as we found them minus some dust. They can be polished up but many collectors prefer the patina look. There is a bit of play in the brass castings as they are set by a single screw in the marble bases, but it is minor. They could likely be tightened a bit, but we did not want to overtighten them either and it does not affect their use or appearance. The 3 arm candelabra weighs about 7 lbs, the 2 side candlesticks about 5 lbs each. We think these are brass although some list them as bronze. The main castings, candle cups & bobeches do not attract a magnet, only the metal screws do. Our offering was acquired from perhaps one of the top collections of such items in the country outside of a museum. Someone had removed the crystals from this piece when we obtained it, but we added them back after acquiring some from the same collector's estate, so they are contemporary to the piece. You can fiddle with the crystals as you wish or use your own of course. Each prism holder collar section could hold up to 10 crystals (50 total), but we thought that would be overwhelming to the pieces. As noted, this came from an extensive private antique collector's estate, complete with a full collection of candelabras from this era & hundreds of other items from antiquity. Frankly we have never seen as extensive of a collection in our 20 plus years' experience in dealing with antiques. When shipping, we will wrap the crystals safely apart from the holders in soft packing to protect them of course in shipping. Just be careful when reinstalling the crystals, they are fragile if dropped or if too much pressure is applied to them. Also, the 170 year old copper wire that attaches prisms can lose pliability over the years and be fragile, so we cannot guarantee they will reinstall without some wire break, but of course you can repair with any pliable wire, fishing line or other if needed. This will be packed in a large heavy box with maximum padding & we will mark it "Fragile" and other when shipping. We will ship these mostly assembled but may wrap upper arm of candelabra apart from lower section if it seems safer (it simply screws back in place). We wrap all items in the safest manner possible but never know until boxing what that may require. Please Read: These will ship FedEx Home or Ground with signature required, so please plan accordingly. We can Ship with UPS or USPS as well if you prefer, but FedEx is usually cheaper on larger items. We ship with extreme care & all items are fully insured! We often take from 30-90 minutes packing more delicate & odd sized items to make sure your treasure is protected. We also photograph most items above $100 while packing in case a shipper were to ever damage an item (only 1 time in over 2,000 US shipped sales). For this reason, if an item is ever damaged, it will be the Buyer's responsibility to file a claim with the shipping service & we can provide photos from packing to assist Buyers. The process is not difficult, but the timing of such does not allow adequate time for the item to be returned to us & then for us to proceed with a claim (chain of custody questions can arise as well on returned items due to double shipping & handling so it is just easier for Buyers). So again, as noted in listing, we do not offer returns. Of course, there is free local pick up and we can meet to assist if you are near Indianapolis or driving through. We do this often. Also, we have discounts with FedEx & eBay on shipping which do not always show up in eBay estimates on shipping. We try to refund what we can when there is a notable difference, but we do not know until we actually process the shipping order.
