Description: SEIKO SPEED-TIMER AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPH 6139-6032 FORWARD DIAL | CIRCA 1971 EXTREMELY RARE | 100% GENUINE | GOOD CONDITION BACKGROUND HISTORY: It has been the controversy since 1969s of who gain the title of "The World First Automatic Chronograph". Zenith & Heuer come out with their El-Primero and Caliber 11 in 1969s and they were produced to global market as early as August to September 1969. In the other continent, SEIKO had quietly announced its own japan domestic market automatic chronograph in early 1969s and the earliest production recorded as early as February 1969s. It was the SEIKO 5 Speed-Timer. Since then, the history of SEIKO Automatic Chronograph has begun. The word "Speed-Timer" was due to the 30 minutes register at 6:00 o?clock and it has fixed Tachymeter bezel plus inner rotating ring. SEIKO Caliber 6139 has been one of the most robust automatic chronographs and it is equipped with both a vertical clutch and a column wheel. It is beating at 21600 Bph and has some features such as quick-set bilingual day/date (English & Kanji) and 30 minutes counter chronograph. Caliber 6139 had been in production since 1969s to 1979s. However, due to the robustness and durability of the caliber, collectors are still able find great examples of SEIKO 6139 in perfect running condition. SEIKO 6139 had been produced for both global and japan domestic market (JDM). The different between JDM and global model is the existence of "Speed-Timer" label on the dial instead of only standard "Chronograph Automatic". The "Speed-Timer" model is the reference famously sought by a lot SEIKO Collectors due to its exclusiveness to ONLY Japanese Market. There were many variants that fall under SEIKO 6139, however one of the most famous, which claim to be The World First Chronograph in Space is SEIKO 6139-6002 a.k.a. "POGUE" in Sun Burst Yellow Dial Color. Captain Pogue wore this watch during his SKYLAB mission in 1973. The one that being worn by him is actually the SEIKO 6139 Global Market Model as there is no "Speed-Timer" notation on the dial. This global variant, in great condition, is quite rare to find today as well. As for JDM model, one of the rarest variant in the history of Seiko 6139 is the Seiko Reference 6139-6032 Speed-Timer with the additional "FORWARD" writing on the dial. The info about this variant has been quite less as it is extremely rare to find it in the market perhaps due to very small and limited dials production. Besides, the information available on the internet was really limited as well. Some collectors speculated that this dial is being produced in conjunction with ISUZU Forward line of Trucks as the "Forward" word printed on the body of the trucks is very similar to the one printed on the dial. On the other hand, some people believed that this small production dial were actually produced to be in line with the SEIKO's company vision to keep moving forward with the great innovations and progress and these special printed dial were given to the key member of Hattory's staffs/members. However, IMHO, these dial might be produced by SEIKO to some of their key staffs to ensure that they still remembered the company's vision of encouraging them to always move forward to invent, introduce, and bring the brand to the world with great innovation. WHY THIS WATCH SEIKO Speed-Timer 6139-6032 is one of the most robust automatic chronograph watch ever produced by SEIKO since 1969s. It is the variant that being hunted by lots of SEIKO collector, especially this extremely rare limited series production of 'SPEED-TIMER FORWARD' dial. This model is equipped with black dial with black inner rotating ring with some Orange touching on the dial edge plus Orange color Speed-Timer word, unique cutting 42mm case, and 'Coke' color fixed Tachymeter bezel make collectors hard to resist. Its case design is funky and fashion plus 42mm case size is just nice for modern era taste, hence it won?t get outdated even nowadays. Beating inside is the venerable Seiko Caliber 6139B caliber, which is the younger brother of 6139A Caliber. It has 21 jewels count due to that it was a JDM version. SEIKO tend to equip its JDM model with higher jewels caliber in the past. The higher the jewels count, the higher the quality of the movement. IMHO, SEIKO's intention is to keep the high quality one for domestic market only. No wonder, most of high jewels JDM calibers are still working fine today even though it has been there for 5 decades.
