Description: Selmer Mark VI Alto with low A and high F#. SN 210XXX, this came from a later production run of these rare instruments (the latest were 238XXX). Plays beautifully with consistent intonation. Small cosmetic blemishes but overall the finish is in like new condition. A modification was made by the late Rheuben Allen, adding an extension to the fork high F key (see picture detail). The octave mechanism sticks sometimes but cleaning it allows it to work fine. This is a gorgeous instrument. It seemed to be closet-kept and hardly played when I purchased it 10 years ago. The low A changes the feel/pitch tendencies of mid D/Eb and low D down which takes some adjustment but I found it to be an easy adjustment and for a while used this as my main alto. During this time I played this instrument in professional orchestras and in solo settings. You can hear me playing it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvzRiEhi4_0 Information from Selmer Historian Douglas Pipher: Selmer 210XXX is a UK-market Low A Alto which shipped from France in April 1973. The engraving, lacquer and set-up was done in France, prior to shipment. (shipments to London prior to 1963 were engraved in France but lacquered and set-up in London.) For all of 1973, only six low A altos were shipped to Selmer London.
