Description: Sterling Silver 1920's -1940's Vintage Brooch, Large Bird, made in Mexico New Price - $235.00 (reduced from $265.) Offered for sale is an exquisite large Sterling Silver brooch, 1920's to 1940's vintage, stamped "Mexico" on the reverse. I am estimating the age to be from the Art Deco/Retro period because of its large size which was typical for brooches in the late Deco/Retro periods. The height is approximately 6-3/4 inches high by just over 2-1/2 inches wide across the span of the wings. There is a greenish stone near the bird's beak, which could possibly be turquoise or some other stone local to the Mexican region where the brooch was created. There is also another very small stone representing the eye of the bird. The bird's feathers are beautifully designed in high relief and are quite detailed. The pin on the rear of the piece slips into a simple c-hook, which is an early type of pin closure. The stamp "Mexico" can be viewed just above the long pin in the photo of the back of the brooch.
