Synthesis means "a putting together" as opposed to analysis, which takes apart. In presenting the purpose of The Bible Book by Book, Dr. Luck writes: "In synthesis we approach a book of the Bible as a single unit and seek to understand its message as a whole. In this method, it is not our purpose to examine small details but rather to get the broad sweep of the book and its general application, a bird's-eye view." This keeps the "new" book prices higher and does not allow retailers to return them to the publisher. Other publishers do not mark them in any way.
