Description: There are many books that speak to the language of flowers but this one is unique because “Father wanted to give Mother a present on their golden anniversary; instead of buying her a brooch or bracelet, he hit upon the happy plan of writing and illustrating a little book for her called “The Language of Flowers”, which has now been resurrected from some forgotten drawer and published in this facsimile edition. A family heirloom first published in 1968 by Michael Joseph, Ltd of London by Margaret Pickston, all that is shared about the author is that they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on August 8, 1913 and that his initials were F. W. L. This copy is a First Edition, Ninth Impression published in 1988 by the Penguin Group, that has an alphabetical listing of flowers and their meanings with page decorations and flower illustrations. A truly charming gift book. Condition: Glossy hardcover boards are in very nice condition with age tanning along the edges as was published. Spine with black text, boards and corners show no edge wear – all corners are rounded as well as all the interior pages. The spine is straight and the hinges are firmly attached to the endpapers. Text block is solid and all pages are firmly attached. The interior pages are clean with no tears, chips, creases or previous owner marks. Unpaginated Dimensions: H – 6” W – 5”
