The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is bold and clear, with subtle use of directional effects proving increasingly effective as the film moves toward its explosive climax. Beginning with a commentary track featuring Lustig, writer Larry Cohen, and producer George G. Braunstein, this disc offers a wealth of entertaining extras. The commentary track is fun and informative, with the filmmaker, writer, and producer keeping things moving at a lively pace. Though Lustig unfortunately repeats himself more than a few times on the second commentary track featuring him and star Isaac Hayes, it is this track that makes for better listening thanks to the wit and humor of the man who brought us the "Theme From Shaft." A "Fire Stunts" featurette with commentary by stunt coordinator Spiro Razatos clocks in at nearly five minutes -- offering a detailed look at the preparation and execution of the grand finale -- with a theatrical trailer, poster, and still galleries rounding out this solid presentation.
